Day Trip to Prince Edward County "Terroir" Wine Festival & Picnic at Lake On The Mountain Provincial Park
The price of this trip includes the following:
$115 per person all taxes and tips included.
Join us on our packed day trip to beautiful Prince Edward County, about 3 hours east of Toronto.
Our day includes a picnic lunch at Lake On The Mountain Provincial Park, cheese tasting at Black River Cheese Co., the "Terroir" Wine Festival with lots of wine tasting and gourmet food sampling in Picton and then a stop for some delicious ice cream from Slickers in Bloomfield.
Lake On The Mountain
We start off our day by travelling to Lake On The Mountain Provincial Park in Prince Edward County.
Once there, we will sit and have our boxed picnic lunch, surrounded by the beautiful turquoise waters of the lake on one side and a steep drop to the Bay of Quinte on the other side.
Cloaked in mystery and legend, this turquoise lake is a source of amazement and a beautiful setting for activities in the park. Located on the Prince Edward Escarpment, nearly 62 metres (205 feet) above the Bay of Quinte, this unusual lake has a constant flow of clean, fresh water but has no visible water source!
It defies all known geographical and geological theory. Stories of volcanoes, meteorites and massive glacial whirlpools abound. The most generally accepted theory holds that it is a collapsed doline, an odd feature found in areas with limestone rock foundations.
Black River Cheese Co.
After our picnic, we travel to the Black River Cheese Company.
Black River Cheese Company was founded in 1901 and has become a must visit stop for anyone coming to Prince Edward County. Situated along the banks of the picturesque Black River, Black River Cheese remains dedicated to preserving more than a century old tradition of producing real cheese.
Here we will get to sample of some of their many varieties of cheddars and mozzarella cheese to tempt and to tickle your taste buds and it's a perfect opportunity to try cheeses that you may not have tasted in the past... such as their renowned Maple Cheddar or the Garlic & Pepper Cheddar, to name just a couple.

And now for the main event! We travel to Crystal Palace in the Picton Fairgrounds, the location of Terroir, the annual showcase for new County wines presented by the Prince Edward County Winegrowers Association.
Many wineries of the region will be introducing their new spring releases and serving their own unique wines paired with delicious cheeses and other gourmet food tastings.
Unlike other wine festivals where you have to buy tickets or tokens to taste wines, at Terroir they do things differently and have simplified things greatly. Your single admission ticket, which is included in the price of this day trip, allows you to sample all the wine you could possibly wish to sample and also gives you access to seminars, demonstrations, complimentary cheese and one food item. If you're still hungry, you can purchase additional food items at a nominal cost.

After our wine and food sampling, we board the bus for our trip to Slickers Ice Cream in nearby Bloomfield, about 20 minutes from Picton.
Bloomfield is a lovely quaint village in Prince Edward County and particularly famous for Slickers who make their own ice cream.
Any of the passengers on last year's trip will tell you, the ice cream truly is amazing and the flavours are out of this world. Just a word of caution -- do not try the Apple Pie flavour.... one bite and you'll be hooked for life. Don't tell us we didn't warn you! (The Burnt Marshmallow and Ginger flavours also seem to have the same effect on people). LOL.
Once you have your ice cream, take a stroll down the main street and check out the lovely shops. Or by all means, take a seat on the chairs outside Slickers and watch the world go by slowly.
And that's it! Once we finish our ice creams, we board the bus to make our way back to Toronto and another exciting and fun filled day alas comes to an end as they all must do. Until the next trip that is.
We hope you will join us and we look forward to seeing you on this trip!
