The McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg is renowned for extensive collection of paintings by Tom Thomson, the Group of Seven and their contemporaries, and First Nations and Inuit artists.

Current exhibitions include:
  • David Milne, Modern Painting: The American art critic Clement Greenberg described Milne as one of the three greatest North American artists of his generation. Although he was overshadowed by the Group of Seven during his early career, Milne is now recognized as one of Canada's foremost artists. This exhibition will document an artistic career that spanned the first half of the 20th century, bringing together more than ninety works in oil and watercolour, never-before-exhibited photographs and drawings by the artist, and memorabilia collected by Milne during his time in Europe as an official war artist.
  • Carl Beam, Time Traveller: Features a selection of works on paper by Ojibwe artist Carl Beam (1943-2005)
  • Stephen Andrews, Aftermath: This exhibition will focus on Stephen Andrews’ works responding to images of war and prisoners of war.
  • The Art Of Canada Director's Cut: Ian Dejardin, Executive Director of the McMichael, is delving into the gallery’s vaults to make a very personal selection of works of art for his first curated show since taking the reins of the gallery.

MacLaren Art Centre

  • Jason Dunda: A Hall of Unflattering Portraits

  • Contributing Factors: Selections from Sovfoto

Our tour includes time for you to browse the galleries on your own. This will be followed by a very interesting lecture and presentation entitled "Demystifying Contemporary Art".
