Rochester Art, Culture & Educational Tour
Fed up of the cold and snow? Then it's time for a mid-winter break!
If you have any interest in art & sculpture, film and cameras, historical buildings, anything Kodak, wine tasting or New Orleans cuisine, then there's going to be something in this tour for you.
And oh yeah, if you have ever wanted to see what a cultured hoarder's basement might look like, then this is your chance. :-)
We're going away for 2 days (Sunday & Monday) over the family day long-weekend to Rochester, NY. On Sunday we visit the George Eastman House and the International Museum of Film & Photography. This will be followed by a wine & cheese tasting at one of the local wineries and our day will end with an optional group dinner at a lovely Italian restaurant.
On Monday, we will start with a guided tour of the city of Rochester follwoed by a brief stop at Wegman's for some grocery shopping for those of you who wish to take advantage of US shopping. This will be followed by our lunch at Rochester's most authentic New Orleans style Cajun & Creole Cuisine Restaurant and we will finish our day at ArtisanWorks.... a place that simply cannot be described but will remain in your mind for a very long time!
We do not charge single supplements or surcharges!
Are you travelling by yourself? We guarantee to find you a roommate or we pay the surcharge!
Of course if you wish to have a private room by yourself, that is no problem and you can pay the Single occupancy rate. Cancellations & Refunds
ArtisanWorks is truly a one of a kind venue that is only in Rochester! We did a tour here about 3 years ago and those who were on that tour still talk about going back to ArtisanWorks.
The best way to describe ArtisanWorks is to think of a cross between an art gallery, museum, sculpture display, the world's largest collection of kitsch, a studio and a cultured hoarder's basement! I guarantee that you will leave the tour and the memory of what you saw will remain with you for a very long time! And you will undoubtedly be back.
Bring your cameras.... there are a lot of photo opportunities and they allow you to take photos of almost everything!
This is a large building and contains over half a million items. The curators have tried to assemble them into some sort of order but it's a hopeless cause. Still, there are rooms like the Marilyn Monroe room, the Frank Lloyd Wright room, the Firehouse, the Dental Practice, the 1950's Retro Room, the French Dining Room, and so much more. And just so you know, everything is for sale! LOL.
George Eastman House & International Museum of Photography & Film
George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film is the world’s oldest photography museum.
It combines the world’s leading collections of photography and film with the stately pleasures of the landmark Colonial Revival mansion and gardens that George Eastman called home from 1905 to 1932. The Museum is a National Historic Landmark. Mr. Eastman, the founder of Eastman Kodak Company, is heralded as the father of modern photography and motion picture film.
Casa Larga Vineyards & Winery
We will be visiting the Casa Larga Vineyards for a private wine & cheese tasting experience where we will get to try 5 different wines, paired with cheese.
In 1974, Andrew Colaruotolo started Casa Larga Vineyards as a hobby, seeking to produce wine reminiscent of wines produced by his family's vineyard in Italy. Casa Larga's first 3 wines were produced in 1978, earning silver and gold medals in the first competition in which they were entered.
Now, 35 years later, Casa Larga Vineyards continues this tradition of excellence - producing high quality, award winning wines, and growing to be one of the leading wine producers in New York's Finger Lakes Region.
Italian Steakhouse Dinner
On Sunday evening, we will be going to Delmonico's Italian Steakhouse for dinner. This is an optional dinner and you have the choice of making your own arrangements for dinner that evening.
If you do decide to join us, we have arranged for a fabulous group dinner at a discounted price that includes your meal, soft drink, tea/coffee and all taxes and tips. You will have your choice of a number of entrees and desserts. Vegetarian and Gluten-Free options will be available.
Cajun & Creole Cookin'
Our lunch on Monday will be at The Beale St New Orleans Grille -- a restaurant serving authentic New Orleans Cajun & Creole cooking!
Here's your chance to bite down on a muffaletta or a po'boy, or if you're hungry, the jambalaya or the etouffeé. Of course if Cajun cooking ain't your thing, they have lots of other items on their menu to suit just about any palate.
We will have 4 pickup locations in the Toronto area.
