Trip Highlights
Upper Canada Village "Alight At Night" Festival
Touring Upper Canada Village is a magical experience, transporting you back in time to the 1860s. A key part of the experience is the authentic buildings that make up the village, the activities that each housed, and of course, the people who lived there.
Founded in 1961, Upper Canada Village is one of the largest living-history sites in Canada. Here, Featured are over forty historical buildings, many moved here prior to flooding of the “Lost Villages” during the St. Lawrence Seaway development project. These include homes, functioning mills and trades workshops.
During the Alight At Night festival, the entire village is festooned with almost 1 million sparkling lights, making for a truly magical evening. Besides exploring the village, you can also take horse-drawn carriage rides, take holiday keepsake photos at the life-size carousel horses staged especially for picture-taking and when you're cold, warm with up beverages from the various cafes and restaurants dotting the property.

Maple Syrup Sugar Shack
Although it will be a bit earlier than maple syrup sugaring season, we will be stopping at a maple syrup farm & sugar shack in Prince Edward County for a simple lunch.
We will be dining in a heated outdoor tent. How cool is that?! Do you get it? Cool? December? Winter? OK, never mind, our webmaster has an odd sense of humour. The farm has offered us the following options for our lunch:
Both meal options will come with your choice of tea, coffee or hot chocolate . |
The Big Apple
After our lunch stop we will do a bief stop at The Big Apple for some shopping and a washroom break.
You will have a chance to shop for some delicious apple pies, apple bread, apple crumble, apple chips... well, you get the idea. They also have an extensive wine tasting, chocolate, baked goods, ice cream and tea/coffee section. And if you feel energetic, you can always climb to the observation deck at the top of the big apple to get a bird's eye view of the area. |
