Agawa Canyon Plus Plus Extended 4-Day Tour

Agawa Canyon Fall Colours Train Tour +
Lake Superior Fall Colours Bus  Excursion +
Soo Locks Boat Cruise

We added one extra day to our classic Agawa Canyon Fall Colours Tour to create this triple-whammy of a trip that allows you to experience the glory of the fall colours in Northern Ontario by all three modes of transportation: Train, Road AND Boat!
Picture
Day 1: Drive to Sault Ste Marie, with breaks along the way in the morning, lunchtime and late afternoon.

Day 2:
Board the Agawa Canyon Train Tour for a scenic journey through Algoma Country, one of the best places in North America to experience vibrant fall colors. From late September to mid-October, the landscape transforms into a breathtaking palette of reds, oranges, and yellows. Art lovers will appreciate that many views along the route inspired the famous Group of Seven painters. A boxed lunch for the train ride is included with the package.

Day 3: Start the day with a guided road trip along the stunning Lake Superior coastline. Our expert local guide will share stories and history as we travel to Lake Superior Provincial Park, where you’ll see striking rock formations, waterfalls, and scenic roadside sand dunes. A delicious boxed lunch is included, enjoyed along the shores of the world’s largest freshwater lake. Along the way, we’ll pass the Edmund Fitzgerald memorial, paying tribute to the ill-fated Great Lakes freighter made famous by Gordon Lightfoot’s song The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Later this same afternoon, unwind on a private 2-hour boat cruise through the legendary Soo Locks. We have chartered the boat exclusively for our group and this cruise takes us through both the Canadian and American locks, offering a unique perspective on this engineering marvel. No passports are required for the tour.

Day 4: As we make our way back to Toronto, we’ll stop in Sudbury for a lunch break and a photo opportunity at the iconic "Big Nickel," a symbol of Canada’s rich mining history.

Mother Nature always has the final say on fall colors, but we promise you’ll experience the rugged beauty of Northern Ontario—along with countless trees!

Trip Highlights

Agawa Canyon Tour Train

The train departs from Sault Ste. Marie train terminal at 8 AM and returns at approximately 6:00 PM.

This one-day wilderness excursion will transport you 183 km. north of Sault Ste. Marie, over towering trestles, alongside pristine lakes and rivers and through awesome granite rock formations and vast forests.

All of the coaches have been recently refurbished and installed with extra large windows so we will truly get to appreciate the beauty of the region and experience the same rugged landscapes that inspired the Group of Seven to create some of Canada’s most notable landscape art.

Agawa Canyon

Picture
As the train pulls to a stop at Agawa Canyon park, you will have one and a half hours to experience the pristine beauty of the canyon up close. Enjoy scenic walks on trails leading to several waterfalls or experience an invigorating climb up over 300 stairs to the breathtaking lookout, perched 250 feet above the canyon floor.

For those who are looking for something a little more relaxing, you can enjoy a peaceful break in the many picnic areas located throughout the park or just sit on a bench and watch the Agawa River slowly flow peacefully by.

A boxed picnic lunch is also included that you can eat either when we stop in the canyon or on the train on the return journey back to Sault Ste. Marie.

Lake Superior Fall Colours Bus Excursion

Picture
Our bus drive heads north along the Trans-Canada Highway from Sault Ste. Marie heading towards Wawa. After 10 km or so you will encounter one of the first real reasons to take this drive ... Mile Hill. Mile Hill will afford you an amazing view of the region’s forests as you descend along it.

The road follows closely along the coast of Lake Superior as you pass Batchewana Bay and Pancake Bay. The ancient lava that helped form the Canadian Shield is evident here along with multi-coloured granite and quartz. We will make stops at Lake Superior Provincial Park and Chippewa Falls.

Soo Locks Cruise aboard the Miss Marie

Picture
The St. Marys River spills from Lake Superior in a dramatic 20-foot cascade before weaving through islands and merging with Lake Huron. In the 1800s, locks were built on both the Canadian and U.S. sides to allow large vessels to navigate these waters, and today they remain essential to the St. Lawrence Seaway.

You will experience these engineering feats firsthand aboard the Miss Marie lock tour, which offers a unique perspective on the city, its waterfront, and the surrounding natural beauty. This relaxing cruise showcases the ingenuity behind these “aquatic elevators,” giving you a front-row seat to one of the Great Lakes’ most fascinating transportation routes.

Big Nickel

Picture
The Big Nickel as it's known is a nine-metre (30 ft) replica of a 1951 Canadian nickel, located at the grounds of Dynamic Earth in Sudbury.

We will be stopping here for a short break and a photo opportunity at the base of the coin.
