Picture
On Day 2 we board the Agawa Canyon Train Tour to travel north to the canyon. This is followed the next day, on Day 3. with a road trip that follows the coastline north of Sault Ste. Marie to Lake Superior Provincial Park with its striking views of the lake, waterfalls along the way and roadside sand dunes and rock formations.

And on Day 4, the last day of the tour, on our way back to Toronto, we stop in the Midland area and enjoy a 2¾ hour afternoon boat cruise on Georgian Bay & the 30,000 Islands area for water views of Midland Harbour, Beausoleil Island, Giants Tomb Island, Honey Harbour and more!

Mother nature always has her own plans. We can guarantee that you will experience the vast and rugged beauty of northern Ontario and we can also guarantee that you will see trees (oh yeah, lots and lots of trees), we just cannot guarantee the colour of the leaves! :-)

Trip Highlights

Agawa Canyon Tour Train

The train departs from Sault Ste. Marie train terminal at 8 AM and returns at approximately 5:30 PM.

This one-day wilderness excursion will transport you 183 km. north of Sault Ste. Marie, over towering trestles, alongside pristine lakes and rivers and through awesome granite rock formations and vast forests.

All of the coaches have been recently refurbished and installed with extra large windows so we will truly get to appreciate the beauty of the region and experience the same rugged landscapes that inspired the Group of Seven to create some of Canada’s most notable landscape art.

Agawa Canyon

Picture
As the train pulls to a stop at Agawa Canyon park, you will have one and a half hours to experience the pristine beauty of the canyon up close. Enjoy scenic walks on trails leading to several waterfalls or experience an invigorating climb up over 300 stairs to the breathtaking lookout, perched 250 feet above the canyon floor.

For those who are looking for something a little more relaxing, you can enjoy a peaceful break in the many picnic areas located throughout the park or just sit on a bench and watch the Agawa River slowly flow peacefully by.

A boxed picnic lunch is also included that you can eat either when we stop in the canyon or on the train on the return journey back to Sault Ste. Marie.

Lake Superior Fall Colours Bus Excursion

Picture
Picture
Our bus drive heads north along the Trans-Canada Highway from Sault Ste. Marie heading towards Wawa. After 10 km or so you will encounter one of the first real reasons to take this drive ... Mile Hill. Mile Hill will afford you an amazing view of the region’s forests as you descend along it.

The road follows closely along the coast of Lake Superior as you pass Batchewana Bay and Pancake Bay. The ancient lava that helped form the Canadian Shield is evident here along with multi-coloured granite and quartz. We will make a stop along the way to view the Chippewa falls and also at the Canadian Carver and Agawa Crafts.

Family owned and operated for over 30 years, Agawa Indian Crafts and the Canadian Carver remain dedicated to providing a wide array of authentic and unique crafts and artwork by Canadian and First Nation artisans.

Georgian Legacy 30,000 Islands Georgian Bay Fall Colours Cruise

Picture
The Georgian Legacy is a 90-foot, 300 passenger, double decked vessel designed to maximize comfort and viewing quality. The ship features large viewing windows, spacious outside observation decks, a snack bar and washrooms. Passengers can move about freely during the duration of the cruises.
The cruise features water views of Midland Harbour, Beausoleil Island, Giants Tomb Island, Honey Harbour and more!

Big Nickel

Picture
The Big Nickel as it's known is a nine-metre (30 ft) replica of a 1951 Canadian nickel, located at the grounds of Dynamic Earth in Sudbury.

We will be stopping here for a short break and a photo opportunity at the base of the coin.
