Trip Highlights
The Ark Encounter
The Ark Encounter is the largest timber frame structure in the world, built from standing dead timber, in part by skilled Amish craftsmen. An architectural and engineering wonder it features a full-size replica of Noah’s Ark, built according to the dimensions given in the Bible. Spanning 510 feet long, 85 feet wide, and 51 feet high, this modern engineering marvel truly amazes. As you enter Noah’s world aboard the massive Ark, you’ll tour three decks filled with scores of world-class exhibit bays. These stunning exhibits allow you to experience what Noah’s life may have been like.
The Creation Museum
Bible history comes to life at the Creation Museum! The state-of-the-art museum allows you to venture through biblical history with nearly 150 exhibits featuring fearsome animatronic dinosaurs, talking heroes of the faith and professional displays.
The museum also boasts a special effects theater, a state-of-the-art planetarium, a petting zoo, botanical gardens and more. |
St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica Of The Assumption
Originally opened as St. Mary's Church in 1837, the interior is modeled after the Abbey Church of St. Denis in Paris while the facade mirrors Notre Dame de Paris.
Built in the 13th Century French-Gothic style, and constructed of Indiana limestone, the Cathedral's interior shines with 82 hand-poured stained glass windows crafted in Munich Germany, including the 24-foot wide by 67-foot tall window in the north transept, one of the largest in the world.
Two rose windows (each 26 ft. in diameter) grace the west and south. The Stations of the Cross, which line the peripheral walls, are made of Italian mosaic. Each mosaic contains at least 70,000 pieces and measures 3-feet wide by 6-feet tall. The Blessed Sacrament Chapel contains a triptych portraying the history of salvation by realist painter, Frank Duveneck. The font of the Baptistry is carved from one solid block of marble from Pietrosanto, Italy. A canopy of carved Appalachian white oak soars over the apse area inset with hand-carved figurines of saints. In 1953, St. Mary's Cathedral was designated a minor basilica by Pope Pius XII, hence her present name ~ Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption.
