For those of you with a curiosity about how stuff is made behind the scenes, here's the ideal bus tour for you! In just four days in southern Pennsylvania (also known as the Factory Tour Capital of the USA) you get to tour 7 production facilities, both large and small. And you get to make your own chocolate bar (and eat it), your own ice-cream (and eat that one too) and make your own soap (er, don't eat that last one even though some of those soaps look and smell totally edible). Oh and lest we forget, you get to shop in the factory outlets/gift shops at every one of these facilities and do sampling in many of them too! Who knew Snyder's made this many types of pretzels?!

Tour Itinerary
Day 1 - Sun May 19
Drive to our hotel, the Hampton Inn, York, PA. Highway stops along the way for breakfast, lunch and afternoon stop. Arrive at hotel approximately 7:45 PM. Check in. Dinner on your own, one restaurant is in same parking lot as hotel and other restaurants are within easy walking distance of hotel.
Day 2 - Mon May 20
We start our day with a tour of the very impressive York Operations of Harley-Davidson where you will get a tour right on the factory floor and literally see sheet steel come in at one end of the building all the way to a fully built motorcycle being given it's final test at the other end of the building. After the motorcycle tour we will go on to Sunrise Soap Company for an introduction on how soap is made followed by our own attempt at making soap that you can take home with you.
Then we proceed to the town that chocolate built aka Hershey, PA where we start with a group lunch followed by the "Make Your Own Chocolate Bar" experience and their famous Hershey Chocolate World tour and finishing our visit with the Hershey Town Trolley Tour through the town of Hershey, PA. Then it's back to the hotel for rest and freshening up. In the evening, for those who are interested, the bus will transport you to the quaint and laid back downtown of the city of York, PA for a stroll and dinner on your own. There are lots of dining options along the main street.

Day 3 - Tue May 21
Oh boy, you're going to gain weight today! After breakfast, start the day with a tour of the large Martin's Potato Chip factory followed by some sampling and shopping. Then it's on to Hanover, PA for the equally vast Snyder's Pretzel factory. Oh yes and more sampling & shopping.
Our lunch stop will be the York Central Market (sort of like a smaller version of the St. Lawrence Market in Toronto) with many food vendors. Lunch is on your own. And then we proceed to the Turkey Hill Experience where you will see how ice cream is made and then the best part of the tour, you get to make your own ice cream in their ice cream lab. We're sorry you are going to have to eat the ice cream right away. Oh stop counting those calories, it's too late for that now!
After our return to the hotel and time to rest and freshen up, for those who are interested, the bus will transport you to the West Manchester Mall, one of the larger malls in the area with lots of shopping and dining options.

Day 4 - Wed May 22
After breakfast and checking out of our hotel, we have two more stops before we make our way back to Toronto. Our first stop is at Bluett Brothers Violins. This is a small violin/stringed instrument maker of many years where the instruments are still made by hand. You'll meet Mark Bluett, the master violin maker and you'll be amazed at his depth of knowledge about his craft.
Unfortunately Bluett Violins is a small facility and can only accommodate half the passengers so the other half will be taken for a 2 minute drive to Stauffer's Cookie Outlet Factory Store where you will see more cookies under one roof than you have probably seen anywhere else. And of course, shop for them too! Then the two groups will change over and after everyone has experienced violins and cookies, we will start making our way back to Toronto.
We will have one rest stop for lunch, a stop at the duty free store just before we drive back across the border into Canada and a short dinner stop in Grimsby before doing the remaining drop offs. And all the passengers will then have to figure out how to transport all the loot home. You'll feel like you went trick or treating for 4 days!
