Tour Highlights
Farmtown Park
Farmtown Park is home of the Hastings County Museum of Agricultural Heritage. It celebrates rural life, and the importance of agriculture and farmers who provide us with our daily food. Learn about cheese and butter making and the development of farm machinery.
Take a walk through their Heritage Village, a unique country town from the 1930’s. Visit their one-room school house and explore their Discovery Centre which houses an amazing collection of toy trucks, tractors and cars. Enjoy an exclusive private tour of the grounds with a guide, or on your own if you wish. Everyone on the tour gets to taste one of their very special homemade butter tarts. |
Ontario Water Buffalo Company
Home to the first milking water buffalo herd in Eastern Ontario, the Ontario Water Buffalo Co. was founded in 2008 by Martin Littkemann & Lori Smith after being inspired by their visit to various Buffalo Dairy farms in Italy. Today they have a herd of over 350!
They produce many products such as milk, cheese, butter, butter tarts, soaps, various meat cuts and gelato! Yes, gelato! Did you know that if you are lactose intolerant, that it could be only from cow's milk and you may be able to eat dairy products from Buffalo's milk? So come see where the Buffalo roam! Our stop here includes a guided tour, sampling of assorted items and a chance to shop for products in their retail store. |
Sprucewood Handmade Cookie Co.
On this tour we visit a cookie company that makes handmade sweet and savoury shortbread cookies. Baked from scratch, some of their batches include flavours such as Lemon Zest, Maple, Rosemary, Spicy Thai & Cheddar and Bacon.
Chef Mark Pollard brilliantly comes up with new creations seasonally aside from these other unique flavours. You'll just have to go back each season to find out what the new creations will be! Our stop here includes a presentation of their products and production methods and sampling of their large assortment of shortbread cookies. Each person will also receive a box of cookies of their choice but of course you are welcome to purchase additional boxes if you wish. |
The Big Apple
Welcome to the world's biggest apple and the home of apple pies, apple bread, apple chips... well, you get the idea. If it has apple in the name, they probably have it!
Not only can you buy products but they also have a nice coffee bar, a cafeteria that serves hot and cold food, outdoor garden and lots of picnic tables and if you feel up to it, you can climb to the top of the "Big Apple" to get a birds eye view of the surrounding area. This will be our lunch stop. Price of lunch is not included in the tour price, lunch is on your own. To have a look at their menu and products click here. |
