Vermont Cheesemakers Festival
Vermont has the highest number of cheesemakers per capita in the USA. There are over 40 artisanal cheesemakers in Vermont. FYI, the whole state of Vermont has a population of 625,000. That's less than North York! And yet the state has over 40 artisanal cheesemakers?! Needless to say, they are serious about their cheese.
We will spend a high summer day along the shores of Lake Champlain at the historic Shelburne Farms Coach Barn sampling, buying, talking to the cheesemakers and learning about cheese making. And did we mention sampling? If you are counting calories and watching your food intake, we're very sorry, but this trip is not going to help whatsoever in that regard. :-) |
"The Sound Of Music" and von Trapp Family Lodge
Most of us have probably seen the movie, the "Sound of Music", based on the life of the von Trapp family, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer and which won the Best Picture Oscar in 1965.
But did you know that the movie was based on the life of the real von Trapp family, originally from Salzburg, Austria, who settled in Vermont in the 1940's? Here's your chance to visit their enchanted farm with sweeping mountain vistas reminiscent of their beloved Austria. Situated on 2,500 acres, the property is still owned and operated by the von Trapp family. |
Our visit to the lodge will start with a lunch buffet in the lodge dining room followed by a 1½ hour guided historical tour of the lodge and the history of the von Trapp family.
Ben & Jerry's
We assume this is one venue that doesn't need an introduction.
We will be visiting Ben & Jerry's original location in Stowe, VT for a factory tour that's a lot of corny fun, followed by ice cream tasting in their retail store. As you tour the grounds and take photos, take a moment to visit Ben & Jerry's "Graveyard". This is where old ice cream flavours, that were retired and have since passed away are buried. |
The Spirit Of Ethan Allen
Enjoy a 1½ hour narrated cruise on beautiful Lake Champlain.
The Spirit of Ethan Allen is the only cruise ship located on Lake Champlain, and offer breathtaking views of the city of Burlington, the Green Mountains of Vermont, and the New York Adirondacks. The ship has two decks, a climate controller lower deck and the open air upper deck. The ship also has washrooms and a cafe that offers snacks and beverages. |
