April 12, 1917 was the day when Canada won the hard fought battle of Vimy Ridge on the Western Front. Many historians consider this victory at Vimy a defining moment for Canada, when the country emerged from under the shadow of Britain and felt capable of greatness. Canadian troops also earned a reputation as formidable, effective troops because of the stunning success. But it was a victory at a terrible cost, with more than 10,000 killed and wounded. Brigadier-General A.E. Ross declared after the war, “in those few minutes I witnessed the birth of a nation.”

This one day escorted tour travels to Haldimand County in South-Western Ontario to commemorate the contributions of all branches of the Canadian armed forces over the decades.

Our visit includes a guided tour at the No. 6 Air Force Squadron Museum in Dunnville followed by lunch at a local restaurant that is housed in a former church! After lunch we will enjoy a private show for our group by a very talented performer who will awe us with his rendition of patriotic ditties, marching songs, instrumental selections and sentimental favorites played on a piano, concertina, banjo, button accordion and Guitar. The show also includes the use of a number of actual period instruments.

And since you are in farming country, it's only appropriate that we support the many local farmers and producers so on our way back to Toronto we will stop at a farm market for a shopping opportunity. Try some locally made Baked Goods, Cheeses, Jams, Jellies, Honey, Home Grown Produce, Fresh Breads and Maple Syrup Products.
